Located in Travis County, Texas, USA, Manor is a city situated 12 miles northeast of Austin. It is an integral part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Manor is known to be one of the rapidly developing suburbs of Austin. In fact, it was ranked as the seventh fastest growing suburb in the United States in 2018 by Realtor.com and the 17th best small suburb to live in by U.S. News and World Report in 2019.

The city of Manor can be found on U.S. Highway 290 at coordinates 30°20′35″N 97°33′24″W (30.343071, –97.556710), which is 12 miles east of downtown Austin. The entire area of the city, as reported by the United States Census Bureau, is 7.35 square miles  consisting entirely of land.

The year 2006 saw the opening of the initial sections of a tollway network in central Texas, comprising State Highway 130, State Highway 45, and State Route 212. As a result, Manor’s accessibility was greatly improved. On the eastern side of town, a Walmart was constructed near the intersection of U.S. Highway 290 and FM 973. Additionally, ground was broken for the Manor Medical Center in 2013.

Manor New Technology High School was visited by President Obama in 2013 and it is part of the Manor Independent School District, which primarily covers the City of Manor.

The Elgin Independent School District contains a portion.

Manor was the pioneer in implementing a QR Code initiative to distribute information to its residents and visitors. Presently, there are 24 QR Code signs installed on different city landmarks and structures in Manor. Additionally, Manor has established partnerships with over twelve small companies to provide a range of advanced technological services.

There are many chances to appreciate nature in the Manor area. The heart of community events, like the Manor Farmers Market, Summertime Movie Series, and Christmas in the Park, is Jennie Lane Park located in downtown Manor. This park is considered a “Smart Park” because it offers WiFi and smartphone-accessible coded signs that provide historical and other information. The park includes a gazebo, pavilion, and outdoor exercise equipment.

Manor’s East Metro Park is a versatile recreational space that offers various amenities such as baseball fields, football fields, a basketball court, playgrounds, nature trails, fishing ponds, and both free and paid pavilions. Additionally, the park features a swimming pool run by the YMCA of Austin and is conveniently located just five minutes to the southeast of Manor.

The neighborhoods of Wildhorse Creek, ShadowGlen, and Stonewater have various recreational features such as parks, playgrounds, and versatile fields. ShadowGlen offers additional attractions like a 4-acre water park and a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool. Furthermore, neighboring the ShadowGlen subdivision is a golf course that was recognized as one of Golf Digest’s top new courses in 2004.

Rita Johnse became the mayor in 2013, making history as the first Hispanic woman to hold the position. Dr. Larry Wallace Jr. then made history in 2019 by being elected as the city’s first African-American mayor.

According to the 2020 census for the United States, the city was home to a population of 13,652 individuals, with 3,054 households and 2,519 families.

The movie titled What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, featuring Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, was shot for a short period in Manor, Texas, as well as in Austin and Pflugerville, Texas. Amber Heard is a native of Manor, Texas.
