Hoffman Estates, situated in Illinois, is a village within Cook County and acts as a suburban area of Chicago. According to the latest census in 2020, the village had a population of 52,530 people.

The village now includes Now Arena, which serves as the home for the Windy City Bulls of the NBA G League.

From 2006 to 2009, the Heartland International Tattoo took place in the village, which was one of the biggest music and dance festivals in the Midwest.

In 2022, a portion of the village that used to be located in Kane County was separated from the village, resulting in the entire village being situated solely within Cook County.

The confirmation of the second COVID-19 case in the United States by the CDC happened in January 2020. The patient, a resident of Hoffman Estates in her 60s, had recently returned from Wuhan, China, and received treatment at St. Alexius Medical Center. Subsequently, her husband became infected, marking the first instance of human-to-human transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country.

Based on the latest census data for the year 2021, Hoffman Estates spans a total area of 21.25 square miles. Out of this, 21.07 square miles (or 99.15%) is land, while 0.18 square miles (or 0.85%) is composed of water.

As of 2020, the main employers in Hoffman Estates include several Japanese companies with their U.S. headquarters located in Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.

The number of employees at St. Alexius Medical Center is 2,500. CDK Global employs 650 individuals, while Siemens Medical Systems, Transformco (formerly Sears Holdings), and Liberty Mutual each have 600 employees. Claire’s and FANUC America both employ 400 people, while the Village of Hoffman Estates and Vistex have 365 and 330 employees, respectively. Leopardo Companies, Inc. and Wells Fargo each have a workforce of 300 individuals.

The residents of North Hoffman Estates, located north of I-90, receive educational services from Township High School District 211 and School District 54 (kindergarten through eighth grade).

The schools in the area include Township High School District 211, Community Consolidated School District 15 for grades K-8 east of Huntington Blvd, and Barrington School District 220 for grades K-12 west of Huntington Blvd. Those living west of Barrington Road generally go to Elgin Area U46 Unit School District.

Some examples of libraries in the area are the Barrington Area Library, Schaumburg Township District Library, Gail Borden Public Library District, and Palatine Township Library.

Hoffman Estates has a single sibling city: Angoulême, located in the Charente department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in France.

Prominent individuals include Tammy Duckworth, who has served as the United States Senator from Illinois since 2016, and Rob Valentino, a former soccer player who currently works as an assistant coach for Atlanta United.
