The area now known as Spring Branch Memorial was first inhabited by German immigrants in the 1800s. The name Hedwig Village is derived from Hedwig Road, which was constructed on land previously owned by Hedwig Jankowski Schroeder, a German emigrant who relocated to Texas in 1906.
