McDade is a community in Bastrop County, Texas, that is not part of a city’s government and is designated for census purposes. It is situated along U.S. Route 290 in the northern part of the county.
The town is called McDade, in honor of James W. McDade, who held significant shares in the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in 1869.
Area students are served by the McDade Independent School District.
Gale Storm, a popular television and recording artist of the 1950s, spent her formative years in McDade, where her mother operated a successful millinery shop.
The Census Bureau of the United States reports that the CDP covers a land area of 4.0 square miles (10 km2) with no water.
According to the 2020 US census, the Census-designated place (CDP) had a population of 720 individuals, 368 households, and 268 families.
