Columbus is a city that serves as the administrative center of Colorado County, located in the southeastern region of Texas, USA.

In 1821, the initial American colonizers reached the historic location believed to be Montezuma’s Indian village. The Mexican authorities then granted land to individuals from Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred, such as Benjamin Beason (also known as “Beeson”) and Abram Alley, in 1822.

Columbus can be found on the southwest bank of the Colorado River, near Interstate 10.

Columbus experiences a temperate climate with sweltering summers and mild winters, falling under the humid subtropical category (Cfa) according to the Köppen climate classification system.

According to the 2020 US census, the city had a population of 3,699 individuals, with 1,209 households and 812 families calling it home.

In the latter part of the 20th century, a museum dedicated to the legendary figure of Santa Claus was established in the town, showcasing a collection amassed by Mary Elizabeth Hopkins, who passed away in 1990. The museum is situated in the former home of Hopkins and has since become a popular attraction for visitors to the area. Another noteworthy site in the region is the historic Alley Log Cabin and Tool Museum, which dates back to the 1830s and offers a glimpse into the past.

The city is supported by the Columbus Independent School District, which consists of Columbus High School for grades 9 to 12, Columbus Junior High for grades 6 to 8, and Columbus Elementary for Pre-K to 5th grade.

In addition to the aforementioned institutions, Columbus is also home to Saint Anthony School, a Catholic educational establishment that serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria in Texas. Moreover, Texas Bible Institute, a branch of Burchfield Ministries International, can be found in Columbus, providing a spiritual and academic environment for those seeking to deepen their understanding of the Bible.
