Gilberts is a village located in Kane County, Illinois, within the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the village was recorded at 8,366 residents.

Human habitation in the Gilberts area was first documented during the War of 1812, as General Scott initiated military actions against the Native American groups residing in the region, such as the Blackhawks, Algonquin, and Potawatomi.

During his election campaign in 1988, George Bush came to the town for a visit.

Gilberts is situated in the northern part of Kane County, with the majority of the village falling within Rutland Township. A small section of the village extends into Dundee Township to the east. The village boundaries reach up to the McHenry County line to the north. Gilberts is flanked to the east by the village of West Dundee and the city of Elgin.

Gilberts, as per the 2010 census, encompasses a total area of 5.558 square miles, with 5.55 square miles consisting of land, making up 99.86% of the total area, and 0.008 square miles comprising water, accounting for 0.14% of the total area.

Gilberts is situated within the boundaries of Community Unit School District 300, where the students living in Gilberts go to Hampshire High School.

Gilberts Elementary School caters to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Previously, the school offered a pre-kindergarten program. Hampshire Middle School and Dundee Middle School are the intermediate schools that lead to Hampshire High School. Residents in the area also have the choice of enrolling their children in Cambridge Lakes Charter School.

The skate park, a recipient of the Governor’s Home Town Award, can be found within the bounds of Memorial Park.

Waitcus Park offers a variety of recreational amenities, including a baseball field, a half-court basketball facility, a playground for kids, a peaceful fishing pond, and a spacious picnic pavilion perfect for family gatherings or community events.

Gilberts is where the GPH Grizzlies Football Team, a member of the TCYFL, is based. The team has achieved two second-place finishes in the Super Bowl and won two championships. Established in 2008, the team consists of three divisions: Bantams, Feather, and Middleweights.
