The village of North Aurora, located in Kane County, Illinois, boasts a population of 18,261 according to the 2020 census. As a suburb of Aurora, North Aurora operates its own public library district, fire district, and police department, while the neighboring Fox Valley Park District oversees the management of public spaces and parks.

North Aurora acquired its name because of its position situated north of Aurora, Illinois. The village’s name was first used in the 1880 US Census, and it wasn’t until 1905 that it was officially incorporated.

Children of school age living in North Aurora go to five public schools within the West Aurora Public School District 129, irrespective of their location on either side of the river. However, a small number of residences in the northeastern part of the village send their children to Batavia School District 101. The North Aurora school district was merged into Aurora’s district in the early 1960s.

The local law enforcement agency in the village is staffed with 28 officers, led by a chief and two deputy chiefs.

The North Aurora Fire Protection District serves the community of North Aurora, with two fire stations located within its boundaries. The first station, Station #1, was established in 1963 and is situated at the intersection of State and Monroe streets. Station #2, which opened its doors on March 16, 2007, is located at 2201 Tanner Road.

Pace offers bus transportation along various routes that link North Aurora with Aurora as well as other locations.

North Aurora is situated in the southeastern part of Kane County, surrounded by the city of Aurora to the south and east, and the city of Batavia to the north. The village is bordered by Interstate 88 to the south, with convenient access from Exits 114 and 117. This highway provides a direct route east to Hillside in the suburbs of Chicago, spanning 23 miles (37 km), and west to the Quad Cities, a distance of 117 miles (188 km). North Aurora is located 38 miles (61 km) to the east of downtown Chicago.
