Romeoville is a village situated in Will County, Illinois, in the United States. Positioned southwest of Chicago, it sits 26 miles (42 kilometers) away on the Gateway Wetlands, just to the west of the Des Plaines River. According to the 2020 census, the population of Romeoville was recorded at 39,863 residents. This village is found in the southwest suburban region of Chicago, close to both Interstate 55 and Interstate 355.

The area now known as Romeoville was once home to the last remaining Native American populations in Will County. The village of Romeo was established on September 14, 1835, on a small island in the Des Plaines River called Isle a La Cache.

A family of four, including two adults and two children, along with their three dogs, tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting at their residence in Romeoville on September 16–17, 2023. Authorities suspected that the killings were deliberate. The perpetrator, 31-year-old Nathaniel Huey Jr., was apprehended with his partner in Catoosa, Oklahoma, on September 20 after attempting to evade a traffic stop and subsequently causing a crash. Tragically, Huey later took the lives of his partner and then himself.

In the 2010 census, it was reported that Romeoville covers an area of 18.759 square miles, with 98.3% being land and 1.7% being water. Romeoville shares borders with Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Crystal Lawns, Crest Hill, Lockport, and Lemont.

Romeoville hosts more than 600 businesses. In 2013, the village received a Gold Medal in the High Performance Economic Development category from the International Economic Development Council and Atlas Integrated. This recognition was based on the village’s achievement of generating 1,560 new jobs in the period of 2012–2013, the highest number among towns with populations ranging from 25,001 to 100,000.
