Roscoe Village is a neighborhood located in the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. Although not officially defined on city maps, residents of Chicago generally recognize its boundaries as Addison Street to the north, Belmont Avenue to the south, Ravenswood Avenue to the east, and the Chicago River to the west. The central feature of Roscoe Village is Roscoe Street, which runs through the neighborhood between Addison Street and Belmont Avenue and is home to various businesses and residents. Local historian Chuck Betzold, who has lived in the neighborhood for a long time, mentions that people have been residing in Roscoe Village since the 18th century, when it was originally inhabited by the Fox Indians.
Between 1904 and 1967, Roscoe Village hostederview Park, which was known as the biggest amusement park globally. Covering 76 acres, the park extended from Belmont Avenue to Lane Tech High School, and from Western Ave. to the Chicago River. Presently, the location is occupied by the Area 3 Police Headquarters, DePaul College Prep, and Riverview Plaza Center.
