Westmont, a village in DuPage County, Illinois the southeastern part of the area of 5.03 square miles, Westmont had a population of 24,429 in 2020. This village is located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
The region now known as Westmont was once home to the Potawatami people. Following unsuccessful efforts by the United States government to convince the indigenous inhabitants to relocate, they ultimately agreed to vacate their lands in 1833, albeit under duress, in exchange for a meager compensation.
The Westmont Public Library’s current facility began serving the community in 1993.
Prominent individuals in Westmont include Robbie Russo, a professional hockey player for the Arizona Coyotes, Kira Salak, a writer and journalist for National Geographic, Elton Simpson, a suspect in the 2015 Curtis Culwell Center attack in Garland, Texas, Ty Warner, the industrialist and creator of Beanie Babies, and Muddy Waters, the renowned musician known as the father of Chicago blues who resided in Westmont before passing away in 1983. The Muddy Waters Park on 63rd Street is dedicated to his memory.
The 2021 census gazetteer files indicate that Westmont has a total area of 13.23 square kilometers, with 12.95 square kilometers (or 97.94%) consisting of land and 0.28 square kilometers (or 2.06%) consisting of water.
In 2022, the town unveiled Quincy Station, a new luxury residential apartment building with 94 units. This development is pet-friendly and designed to be transit-oriented, and is part of the town’s broader initiative to rejuvenate the Central Business District in Westmont.
Westmont enjoys convenient access to the Chicago area via multiple transportation routes. The village is served by Metra’s BNSF Railway Line, which runs daily trains between Aurora, Illinois and Chicago’s Union Station. Additionally, several major highways pass through or near Westmont, including U.S. Route 34, Interstate 88 to the north, Interstate 55 to the south, Interstate 294 to the east, and Interstate 355 to the west. These roads provide easy access to the surrounding region.
