Woodridge, a village located in DuPage County, Illinois, is a suburban area situated southwest of Chicago. According to the 2020 census data, the population of Woodridge was recorded at 34,158 residents.
Woodridge is situated north of the intersection between Interstate 55 and Illinois Route 53, in a wooded area known as “The Ridge” that overlooks the East Branch of the DuPage River and the Des Plaines Valley. The village was incorporated on August 24, 1959, with a small population of less than 500 residents.
Woodridge is surrounded by Naperville on its western side the northeast, Dari the south, Bolingbrook in the southwest, and Lisle to the northwest.
Woodridge is traversed by two major interstate highways: the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) and the Stevenson Expressway (I-55). The Veterans Memorial Tollway provides access to several western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago, while I-55 offers a direct route to downtown Chicago and connects to Joliet and other cities in downstate Illinois to the south. In addition, 75th Street and Illinois Route 53 are two other significant routes that pass through the area.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad has an industrial branch that serves the International Center, a significant industrial zone located in the southern part of the city. Passengers can access commuter rail services connecting Chicago and Aurora through nearby Lisle or Downers Grove.
Pace operates the bus service, which is overseen by the Regional Transportation Authority.
Woodridge is traversed by several major highways, including Interstate 55, Interstate 355, US Highways, Historic US 66, and Illinois Highways such as Route 53.

Woodridge experiences a humid continental climate, characterized by varying temperatures and precipitation patterns throughout the year. July tends to be the warmest month, with average highs soaring to 84°F (29°C), while January takes the title of coldest month, with average lows dipping to 18°F (-8°C). August usually sees the most rainfall, with an average of 4.2 inches (107 mm), and February tends to be the driest month, receiving an average of 2.1 inches (53 mm) of precipitation. The highest temperature ever recorded in Woodridge was 105°F (40.56°C) in July 2005, while the lowest temperature on record was -26°F (-32°C) in January 1985.
The Woodridge Village School District 68 consists of six elementary schools, including Edgewood, Willow Creek, Sipley, William F. Murphy, Meadowview, and Goodrich, which serve students in grades K-6. Jefferson Junior High School serves students in grades 7 and 8. Woodridge does not have its own high school, and instead, most students attend either Downers Grove North or South High Schools, which are part of Community High School District 99.
The Woodridge Park District manages a diverse array of local parks and open spaces, providing amenities for picnicking and various sports such as baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, cricket, and Frisbee golf. Additionally, the Park District oversees Cypress Cove water park and the Athletic Recreation Center, which opened in 2017.
Prominent individuals in the area include Thax Douglas, a poet, Frank Kaminsky, who plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns, Nick Solak, an MLB player for the Atlanta Braves, James “Turk” Tore serves as a caporegime and enforcer for the Chicago Outfit, and Doug Walker, a film critic and Internet personality.
