After the Civil War in America, the Houston and Texas Central Railway restarted constructing tracks north from Corsicana and crossed the region in 1872. When Anna was officially planned in 1883, it already had 20 residents, two shops, a steam-powered gristmill, and a Baptist church. Additionally, a post office was established during the same year. In 1885, a train station was constructed by the railway.
