Located in the western part of Texas, Azle can be found in both Parker and Tarrant Counties, just west of the bustling city of Fort Worth.
In 1846, the area now known as Stewardson was first inhabited by James Azle Steward, a young medical professional, who took up residence in a log cabin previously built by a Dutch settler named Rumsfeldt. This marked the beginning of a wave of settlement in the region, with other pioneers establishing themselves near the nearby waterways, including Ash Creek, Silver Creek, and Walnut Creek.
Azle is located to the northwest of downtown Fort Worth, specifically along State Highway 199, about 17 miles away. It is situated in the northwest section of Tarrant County and also reaches into Parker County.
The city boasts a total area of 8.8 square miles, as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Of this, a mere 0.015 square miles, accounting for a minuscule 0.20%, is covered by water, while the remaining 8.8 square miles consists of land.
In the city, there were 13,369 individuals, 4,705 households, and 3,499 families living there according to the 2020 United States census.

Azle Independent School District employs 992 individuals, making it the largest employer in the area. Following closely behind are Walmart with 426 employees and Texas Health/Harris Methodist Hospital with 240 employees. Other significant employers include Tri-County Electric Coop, City of Azle, Azle Manor Nursing Home, Integrated Machine Solutions, Rockwell American (Quality Trailer), Albertson’s Grocery, and Brookshire’s Grocery, each with varying numbers of employees ranging from 90 to 142.
The Azle Independent School District serves the City of Azle. The school district’s Math/Science and Journalism teams jointly won the 2005 UIL State Academic Meet championship with a total score of 110 points. Additionally, the Azle High School Marching Green Pride band, directed by Dr. Ross Grant, advanced to the State Marching competition in San Antonio in 2003, 2007, and 2009. Later, under the direction of Shawn Murphy, the band placed 18th out of 244 4A marching bands in the state of Texas in November 2011, and 13th in the same category in 2013.
