The town of Easton was established in the 1870s and was named after Oliver C. Easton, one of its initial landowners. The community has had a functioning post office since 1873.

The village is traversed by Illinois Route 10, known as Main Street, which runs eastward for 8 miles to Mason City and northward for 4 miles to its end at U.S. Route 136. The county seat of Mason County, Havana, is located 14 miles to the northwest of Easton.
