Hinsdale, located in both Cook and DuPage counties in Illinois, is a affluent village that lies to the west of Chicago. It is ranked as the fourth wealthiest community in Illinois according to the Richest Places Annual Index, following Kenilworth, Winnetka, and Glencoe. As of the 2020 census, the population of Hinsdale was 17,395, with the majority residing in DuPage County.

Hinsdale is situated 20 miles west of Chicago and is surrounded by Western Springs to the east, Clarendon Hills and Westmont to the west, Oak Brook to the north, and Burr Ridge and Willowbrook to the south. Interstate 294 marks the eastern boundary of Hinsdale, while Route 83 marks the western boundary.

The historic downtown district of Hinsdale, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Districts, retains its original charm despite the numerous development projects that have taken place over the years. Located in the heart of the town, the area is home to a variety of eateries, shops, and services, including the main train station, offering residents and visitors alike a unique and enjoyable experience.

On April 1, 1873, the village was officially incorporated. The Hinsdale Police Department is responsible for maintaining law and order in the area, while the Hinsdale Fire Department, established in 1893, provides vital firefighting services to the community.

Hinsdale benefits from a transportation system comprised of significant federal, state, and county highways such as the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294), U.S. Route 34, and Illinois Route 83. The town is also accessible via Metra’s BNSF Line with stops at Highlands, Hinsdale, and West Hinsdale. Furthermore, Pace offers connecting bus services in the area, with routes 663 and 668 currently servicing Hinsdale.

AdventHealth Hinsdale hospital, a teaching hospital and level-two trauma center, has been recognized as one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation. With a rich history dating back to 1904, the hospital is operated by AdventHealth and serves DuPage County.

Hinsdale’s young residents have access to quality education through Primary and secondary schools, with Community Consolidated School District 181 and Hinsdale Township High School District 86 providing their educational needs. The high school district’s main office is located in Hinsdale.

In Hinsdale’s School District 181, the elementary schools are The Lane School, Madison School, Monroe School, and Oak School. Prospect School, Elm School, and Walker School are elementary schools in District 181 but are not situated in Hinsdale. Hinsdale Middle School and St. Isaac Jogues, a K-8 Catholic Grade School, are in Hinsdale, while Clarendon Hills Middle School is located in Clarendon Hills within District 181.

Hinsdale Central High School, formerly known as Hinsdale Township High School, is situated in Hinsdale.

The Hinsdale Public Library has been serving the community from its location in the west wing of the Memorial Building since its opening in August 1893. The library found its first permanent home in the Memorial Building, which was completed in 1929.

Hinsdale’s economy is diverse, with a mix of small and medium-sized businesses, as well as a number of major employers. Hinsdale’s public pool is a 3-acre (1.2 ha) facility known as the Hinsdale Community Swimming Pool. Meanwhile, Veeck Park serves as the town’s skate park and offers a variety of recreational spaces, including a baseball field, 4 soccer/football fields, a playground, and a sandbox adjacent to the playground. In case of inclement weather, the park also features an awning for shelter. The park spans 14.7 acres (5.9 ha) in total.
