Located within Union County, North Carolina, Indian Trail is a suburban town that is part of the larger Charlotte metropolitan area.

Established on March 12, 1861, the town has a rich past of merchants along the “Indian Trail,” connecting Petersburg, Virginia, with the Waxhaw Indians and gold mining regions. Initially a farming settlement, Indian Trail attracted German, Scot-Irish, and Irish immigrants drawn to its strategic position in the region.

Indian Trail is a swiftly expanding suburb situated in the southern part of the Piedmont region of North Carolina, about 10 miles southeast of Charlotte in Union County. It is positioned in the northwest corner of Union County, which is recognized as one of the top 10 fastest-growing counties in the nation.

According to the 2020 US census, the town had a population of 39,997 individuals, with 12,743 households and 10,210 families living there.
