Itasca, a village in DuPage County, Illinois, boasts a population of 9,543 according to the 2020 Census. Situated approximately 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, the village enjoys a prime location near O’Hare International Airport, major expressways, and convenient rail transportation. Itasca is also home to a country club and a resort, and lies adjacent to the renowned golf course of Medinah. Notably, BusinessWeek has recognized Itasca as the Best Affordable Suburb in Illinois.

In 1841, Elijah Smith, a physician from Boston, sought a new location to establish his medical practice, farm, and raise a family. At the suggestion of his colleagues, he embarked on a journey from New York through Detroit and ultimately settled in DuPage County. His government land title, issued on March 10, 1843, and signed by President John Tyler, granted him ownership of the land that would become Itasca.

Based on the 2021 census gazetteer files, Itasca encompasses a total area of 5.14 square miles, with 5.02 square miles consisting of land and 0.12 square miles consisting of water, resulting in a landmass that accounts for 97.63% of the total area and water covering 2.37%.

Itasca has a total of four primary railroad crossings, running from west to east: IL 53/Rohlwing Road, Catalpa Street, Walnut Street, and CR 10/Prospect Avenue. Additionally, there are several other crossings located within the various Industrial Parks.

St. Luke Lutheran Church and School was established in 1885. They moved to their present site at the intersection of Washington and Rush streets in 1961.

Itasca is home to the headquarters of prominent companies like Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Jewel-Osco, Walter E. Smithe, and Fellowes, Inc. LaunchPoint, based in Itasca, was listed as the 100th fastest-growing private company in the U.S. by Inc. magazine in 2014. PrimeCo also had its headquarters in Itasca. Knowles Electronics, founded by Hugh S. Knowles in 1946, is located in Itasca. Eaglewood Resort, situated next to Medinah Country Club, is another notable establishment in Itasca.

Strategically situated at the confluence of Interstate 290, Veterans Memorial Tollway, and the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway, Itasca enjoys a privileged position for business and industrial development in the northwest suburbs.

Irving Park Road, known as State Highway 19, provides an east-west connection between Chicago and Elgin, passing through the town’s center. On the western outskirts, Rohlwing Road, designated as State Highway 53, runs north-south.
