Located in Cook, DuPage, and Will counties in Illinois, Lemont is a village with a population of 17,629 as of 2020. Positioned on a hillside along the south banks of the Des Plaines River, Lemont offers picturesque views of Waterfall Glen’s Midwestern Bluff Savanna on the opposite side. The village is home to several heavy industrial sites, including Argonne National Laboratory, and has a notable European immigrant population.

Founded in 1836, Lemont village is among the most ancient American settlements in the northeastern region of Illinois.

Based on the 2021 census gazetteer files, Lemont covers a land area of 8.37 square miles (21.68 km2) and a water area of 0.38 square miles (0.98 km2), making its total area 8.74 square miles (22.64 km2).

In 2008, the 11-year-old girls’ Little League All-Star team from Lemont ventured to Beardstown, Illinois, for the state tournament and emerged victorious, capturing the state title.

In 2009, Lemont’s 11-year-old All-Star team claimed their second straight State Championship title.

Lemont is home to three prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools acknowledged by the US Department of Education for their outstanding student achievement. In 2017, Lemont High School was honored with the Blue Ribbon award, followed by Saints Cyril and Methodius School in 2019.
