Lombard, located in DuPage County, Illinois, is a suburb of Chicago within the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of Lombard was 44,476.

The Lombard region, which was once inhabited by Potawatomi Native Americans, saw the arrival of European American settlers in the 1830s.

Lombard, as per the 2021 census gazetteer files, covers a total area of 10.41 square miles, with 10.22 square miles being land and 0.19 square miles being water, which calculates to a percentage of 98.21% of land and 1.79% of water.

As per the 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report by Lombard, the leading employers in the city include J.C. Penney Co. Inc. with 400 employees, School District 87 with 300 employees, Westin Lombard Yorktown with 275 employees, Adjustable Forms, Inc. with 250 employees, and Vitas Healthcare Corporation with 250 employees.

Metra’s Union Pacific West Line provides service to Lombard, connecting it to Elburn, Illinois along the former Chicago and Northwestern Railway route. Additionally, Lombard has easy access to I-88 / Illinois 110, I-355, and Illinois Routes 38, 53, 56, and 64.

In the past, trains from the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad used to stop at Stewart Ave, Main St, Brewster Ave, and Westmore/Meyers Road for commuters, along with trains from the Chicago Great Western Railway. These old railway lines are now transformed into recreational trails that can be used for various purposes, known as the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail.

Lombard is connected to Naperville, Cicero, and other destinations via multiple bus routes operated by Pace. The Yorktown Center acts as a central hub for these bus routes, providing convenient access to the surrounding area.

Prominent individuals in Lombard include Winifred Bonfils, a newspaper journalist, Dallas Frueh and Russ Gamester, both racing drivers, Harold Gray, the cartoonist behind Little Orphan Annie, and Tom Higgenson, the founder of Plain White T’s who was raised in the area.
