Midlothian, a village nestled in Bremen Township, Cook County, Illinois, boasts a population of 14,325 residents as of the 2020 census. Located just outside of Chicago, it is considered a southwestern suburb of the bustling city.
The Midlothian Fire Department was established in 1924, potentially in anticipation of the initial effort to make the village an official entity. Despite this, the idea was rejected for reasons that remain unclear. It wasn’t until 1927, three years later, that the residents finally voted in favor of creating the Village of Midlothian.
Based on the 2021 census gazetteer files, Midlothian spans a total area of 2.82 square miles (7.30 km2), with no bodies of water included in this measurement.
Midlothian, like much of Cook County, experiences a climate characterized by hot summers and frigid winters.
The community of Midlothian is recognized locally for organizing the yearly Fiesta event at St. Augustine Catholic Church on the corner of 147th Street and Keeler Avenue.

Midlothian is most recognized for its proximity to the Tri-state Tollway (I-294) and I-57, as well as the Midlothian station. This station offers Metra commuter rail service on the Rock Island District, with trains running north to Chicago’s LaSalle Street Station and south to Joliet Transportation Center. Additionally, Pace operates various bus routes that connect Midlothian to different destinations in the Southland region.
Prominent individuals include Gary Bettenhausen, who was an auto racer, John Coyne, a novelist who served as the caddie master at Midlothian Country Club, Jaclyn Dowaliby, a tragic murder victim, Don A. Moore, an Illinois judge, lawyer, and politician, Johnny Mostil, an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox, and Ken Wahl (Anthony Calzaretta), a film and television actor known for his role in Wiseguy, who graduated from Bremen High School in 1975.
