Pearland, situated in Texas, spans across Brazoria County with some areas also reaching into Fort Bend and Harris counties. It is considered a main city in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2020 U.S. census, Pearland had a population of 125,828 residents.

During the 1800s, Pearland was primarily made up of grasslands. People living there grew crops like cantaloupes, corn, figs, pears, and watermelons. The Allison & Richey Land Company marketed Pearland as a perfect place for farming. The initial residential area was named “Suburban Gardens“.

As per the data provided by the United States Census Bureau, Pearland covers a land area of 47.0 square miles (121.8 km2) and a water area of 0.46 square miles (1.2 km2), making up a total area of 47.5 square miles (122.9 km2). In 2009, the city indicated that when considering both the city limits and adjacent unincorporated regions like Country Place and Silverlake, the overall area encompassed 72 square miles (190 km2).

From 2015 to 2019, the middle-income household in the area brought in $104,504, while the average individual income was $42,211. Additionally, approximately 3.5% of people in the community lived in poverty.

In 2020, close to 60% of the people in the area identified with a religion. Christianity is the most widespread faith in Pearland and the larger Greater Houston metropolitan region. The Baptist denomination was the largest Christian group, with the Catholic Church and the United Methodist Church following. Other significant non-Christian religions in the area were Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.

The community relies heavily on the Texas Medical Center and surrounding areas for employment opportunities, with many residents commuting daily for work. Additionally, Pearland is home to a significant number of NASA employees who work at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.

Between 2004 and 2009, Pearland and another Texan city experienced significant increases in retail sales, with Pearland’s retail market showing the fastest growth in the state from 2009 to 2011. The area is home to popular mixed-use lifestyle and shopping centers that offer a wide range of national retail stores and restaurants to its residents.

Since 2015, the “Wobble before you Gobble” health fair has been an annual tradition in Pearland, Texas, hosted by the local community. Founded by Dr. Vishalakshmi Batchu, a primary care physician, the event takes place in November at the Pearland Town Center and brings together a variety of healthcare providers, both large and small. The fair offers free health screenings, check-ups, vaccinations, procedures, and nutrition and lifestyle advice. Local schools’ fine arts clubs participate in the event, showcasing their talents through singing, dancing, skits, and exercise routines. Additionally, workout specialists lead sessions in various formats, including zumba, salsa, Bollywood, and yoga. The event is organized by residents of Pearland, making it a true community effort.

The Pearland Post Office is located at 3519 East Walnut Street, and there is also the Ofc. Endy Ekpanya Post Office situated at 2700 Cullen Boulevard, both managed by the United States Postal Service.

The majority of Pearland falls within the boundaries of the Pearland Independent School District. Some areas of Pearland belong to the Alvin Independent School District (which includes most of Shadow Creek Ranch), Fort Bend Independent School District (covering some parts of Shadow Creek Ranch), Clear Creek Independent School District, Houston Independent School District, and Pasadena Independent School District.

All Pearland ISD schools, such as Pearland High School and Glenda Dawson High School, cater to the area of Pearland within the Pearland ISD district.

In the Alvin ISD, students have access to a range of educational institutions, including multiple elementary and middle schools, as well as Shadow Creek High School in Pearland and Manvel High School in Manvel.

The majority of the Fort Bend ISD area is assigned to schools located in Houston, including Blue Ridge Elementary School, McAuliffe Middle School, and Willowridge High School. A small section is designated to schools in Missouri City, such as Parks Elementary School, Lake Olympia Middle School, and Hightower High School.

South Belt Elementary School, part of Pasadena ISD, is located within the boundaries of Pearland city. The Pasadena ISD area is divided, with some students attending Moore Elementary School and the others attending South Belt Elementary School. Similarly, students are split between Morris Middle School and Beverly Hills Intermediate, as well as between Melillo Middle School and Thompson Intermediate School. All Pasadena ISD residents residing in Pearland are assigned to Dobie High School in Houston.

Weber Elementary School, Westbrook Intermediate School, and Clear Brook High School in unincorporated Harris County are the schools that cater to the Clear Creek ISD area.

The area under the jurisdiction of Houston ISD is home to three institutions of learning: Almeda Elementary School, Lawson Middle School (previously known as Dowling Middle School), and Worthing High School, all located within the city of Houston.

The Pearland Library, located at 3522 Liberty Drive, is a branch within the Brazoria County Library System. It had to shut down for an extended period following the destruction caused by Hurricane Ike in September 13, 2008. However, it resumed operations in March 2009.

Pearland’s transportation infrastructure is comprised of several major highways and arterial roads. State Highway 288, which connects the city to Houston, runs through the western part of Pearland. FM 518, also known as Broadway, serves as the primary east-west artery, while State Highway 35, also known as Main Street and Telephone Road, runs north-south through the city. The Texas State Highway Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Tollway), located near the northern Brazoria County and southeastern Harris County border, provides access to the northern part of Pearland and is one of the largest tollways in the Houston area.
