Located in the southernmost part of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Pineville is a suburban town. It is positioned between Charlotte and Fort Mill in the Waxhaws district and is also a part of the Charlotte metropolitan area.
James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States, was born in Pineville. Although his birth home no longer exists, a preserved cabin from that era serves as a symbolic representation of the place he was born. Currently, this site is recognized as a state historic location and features two reconstructed log cabins, both originating from the local area and constructed around 1790. These cabins are furnished with antique items from the same period, reminiscent of what the Polk family would have used. The site also includes a main house, a cookhouse, and a log barn, with guided tours available, led by guides dressed in period costumes.
