Prosper is situated in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area, sprawling across Collin and Denton counties in the Lone Star State of Texas.
In 1914, Prosper officially came into existence as a municipality with a government structure based on a commission system and a resident population of 500 individuals.
Prosper is situated in the western part of Collin County and the eastern part of Denton County at coordinates 33°14′18″N 96°47′27″W. The town spans a total area of 22.8 square miles (59.1 square kilometers), with just 0.23 square miles (0.6 square kilometers) or 1.09% of the area covered by water, based on data from the United States Census Bureau.
The town of Prosper saw its population increase from 9,423 in the 2010 census to 30,174 in the 2020 U.S. census.
Every year, Prosper hosts a Christmas festival and a Fourth of July celebration. The Prosper Founders Fest is held in May to honor the town’s heritage, residents, and artistic endeavors. This event features the “Barbecue Cookoff” organized by the Prosper Fire Department, a 5K race, an art exhibition, a music festival, and a Sunday Family Fellowship.
The majority of the town’s educational needs are met by the Prosper Independent School District.
Prosper High School and Rock Hill High School, both serving grades 9-12, are located in Prosper and Frisco, respectively. Walnut Grove High School, also serving grades 9-12, is located in Frisco. Hays Middle School, Reynolds Middle School, Rogers Middle School, and Rushing Middle School, all serving grades 6-8, are located in Frisco and McKinney. Baker Elementary School, Boyer Elementary School, Bryant Elementary School, Christie Elementary School, Cockrell Elementary School, Folsom Elementary School, Furr Elementary School, Hall Elementary School, Hughes Elementary School, Johnson Elementary School, Light Farms Elementary School, Lilyana Elementary School, Reeves Elementary School, Rucker Elementary School, Spradley Elementary School, Stuber Elementary School, and Windsong Ranch Elementary School, all serving grades K-5, are located in McKinney, Celina, and Frisco.
