The name Rockwall is inspired by a unique geological formation that resembles a man-made wall, with its distinctive joints giving it a structured appearance.

Evidence of prehistoric Native American cultures occupying the Rockwall region dates back to around 13,500 to 13,000 years ago, as indicated by the discovery of Paleo-Indian artifacts alongside extinct Pleistocene mammal remains at various archeological sites in the Texas Prairie-Savannah Region of eastern North Central Texas. Additionally, Clovis points found at the Brushy Creek Clovis Site in Hunt County, as well as the presence of Caddo and Creek Indians in more recent times, further highlight the historical significance of the area.

The city boasts a total area of 31.6 square miles, as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Of this, 22.3 square miles consists of land, while a mere 0.4 square miles, or 1.63%, is water.

Rockwall is situated on the eastern bank of Lake Ray Hubbard, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas. The town is positioned on state routes 205 and 66, to the north of Interstate 30.

From the world of entertainment, there’s Jason Castro, a top 12 finalist on season 7 of American Idol, and Allie Gonino, a singer, actress, and violinist who played Laurel Mercer in The Lying Game. In sports, there’s Cliff Harris, a professional football safety who played for the Dallas Cowboys, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, an NFL wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. Other notable residents include Andy Tanner, a former wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, and Travis Tedford, a former child actor best known for his role as Spanky McFarland in the 1994 feature film The Little Rascals.

In politics, Rockwall has been represented by Ralph Hall, a member of the US House of Representatives, and Dan Bartlett, a former Counselor to the President.
