Southlake is a city situated mainly in Tarrant County, with small portions reaching into Denton County within the state of Texas in the United States. It serves as a suburban area of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Southlake was established in the 1840s, however, it was not officially named Southlake until 1956, which was four years after Grapevine Lake was finished being built.

Southlake is situated at a latitude of 32°56′48″N and a longitude of 97°8′43″W, as noted by [13]. According to data from the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.5 square miles, comprising 21.9 square miles of land and 0.6 square miles of water, which accounts for 2.45% of the total area.

It is close to Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport.

In the city during the 2020 United States census, there were 31,265 individuals, 9,323 homes, and 8,398 family units.

Sabre Holdings, a prominent S&P 500 corporation, has its main office located in Southlake’s Solana business park. The company’s diverse operations include gasoline storage and distribution facilities, as well as concrete manufacturing plants, which are situated on the east side of town, conveniently close to DFW Airport and accessible via Highway 114.

Southlake’s claim to fame is its upscale shopping destination, Southlake Town Square, situated at the intersection of State Highway 114 and Southlake Boulevard. The shopping center underwent a significant expansion in 2005, which was approved in March of that year. The project’s completion in the summer of 2006 solidified Town Square’s status as a top shopping hotspot in the Metroplex.

As per the 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report of Southlake, the leading employers in the city include Sabre Holdings with 2,550 employees, TD Ameritrade with 2,230 employees, Carroll ISD with 1,176 employees, Verizon Wireless with 685 employees, Keller Williams with 650 employees, and Gateway Church with 600 employees.

Established in 1956, the City of Southlake adopted a home rule charter that was endorsed by voters on April 4, 1987. It functions under a Council-Manager system of governance. The City offers a range of services as part of its general governmental operations, such as public events, public safety, urban planning, infrastructure development, road maintenance, park management, recreational activities, library amenities, and administrative support. According to the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 2013–2014, its various funds recorded $104.2 million in income, $79.6 million in expenses, $678.6 million in total assets, $182.1 million in total liabilities, and $108.8 million in cash and investments.

The majority of Southlake falls under the jurisdiction of the Carroll Independent School District, which encompasses several schools, including:

In Southlake, different parts of the city fall under different independent school districts. The Denton County sections are part of the Northwest ISD, the far west areas are under the Keller ISD, and the far east areas are in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Residents of Southlake living outside the Carroll ISD boundaries can attend a Carroll ISD school by applying through the district. All schools in the district have been rated as “Exemplary” according to the Texas Education Agency.

The regions in GCISD are designated to Cannon Elementary School, Grapevine Middle School, and Grapevine High School.

Southlake is home to several private schools, offering a range of educational options for students. These include The Clariden School, which provides project-based learning for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Fusion Academy Southlake is a middle and high school that is part of a national chain, while Southlake Montessori focuses on elementary education. Additionally, The King’s University is located in Southlake, offering a Christian-based education.

Public transportation is not available within the city, including buses. The closest train station, Grapevine-Main Street station, is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) away from the town center.

Additionally, there are John Burkett and Jon Daniels from professional baseball, Hailey Hernandez from diving, and Dana Loesch from conservative activism. Other notable figures are Marcus Spears and DeMarcus Ware from football, as well as Rory Sabbatini and Yang Yong-eun from golf.

Southlake Sister Cities is a nonprofit group affiliated with Sister Cities International and has connections with two sister cities: Tome, Japan, and Wuzhong, China. These connections involve student exchanges and visits by adult delegations between the cities.
