Wylie, situated in the northeast of Dallas, is County but has expanded into Dallas and Rockwall counties in Texas. Positioned along State Route 78, it is approximately 24 miles northeast of downtown Dallas and sits between Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard.

During the 1990s, Wylie experienced two, on May 9, 1993, a tornado severely damaged downtown Wylie. Then, in December 1998, two fires broke out, resulting in the destruction and harm of numerous businesses. Following these events, efforts were made to revamp the downtown area while preserving the historical buildings that had stood for many decades. On April 11, 2016, a hail storm hit Wylie, bringing softball-sized hailstones that caused significant damage to around 80% of the city’s homes, amounting to over $240 million in losses.The city boasts a total area of 35.317 square miles, with 21.037 square miles consisting of land and 14.280 square miles, or 40.43%, covered in water, according to the United States Census Bureau. Wylie experiences a subtropical climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and cold, mild, rainy winters.

According to the 2020 US census, the city was home to 57,526 individuals, 15,730 households, and 12,863 families.

Under the council-manager system, Wylie’s governing body consists of a mayor and six council members, all of whom are elected by the people, and a city manager who is appointed to oversee the city’s operations.

Wylie Independent School District serves the majority of the area in Collin County, while smaller sections are covered by Community Independent School District, Plano Independent School District, and Princeton Independent School District. Garland Independent School District serves the Dallas County part, and Rockwall Independent School District serves the Rockwall County section.

In December 2019, Wylie had a total of 20 schools, with 11 of them being elementary schools, 3 intermediate schools, 3 junior high schools, and 3 high schools, one of which is Achieve Academy. The new Collin College campus in Wylie, which opened in August 2020, has the capacity to accommodate up to 7,500 students.

Kansas City Southern offers cargo rail transportation (following a path similar to State Highway 78) and manages a multimodal hub inside the city limits.

Jackie Galloway, originally from Crown Point, Indiana, achieved a bronze medal in taekwondo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Chris Givens is a well-known NFL wide receiver, while Bill Harris has played as a Major League Baseball pitcher for teams such as the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Boston Red Sox. Braden Shewmake is currently a MLB shortstop for the Atlanta Braves, and Victor Ulloa, originally from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, is a defensive midfielder for Inter Miami. Nikita Whitlock is a former NFL fullback, and Eno Benjamin is a NFL running back for the New Orleans Saints.
